Vehicle Crashes into Kirkland Home Pinning Resident Under Vehicle

Kirkland, WA – Shortly before noon today the Kirkland Police Department responded to a call of a vehicle into a residence at 240 5th Ave. Officers arrived and found an SUV had crashed through an exterior wall and into the living room of the home. On further inspection Officers located the male resident pinned to the couch under the vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle was the male resident’s wife, and the car was driven by her friend. It appears the driver was attempting to park when the vehicle accelerated into the building. The Kirkland Fire Department was able to remove the alert and responsive male resident from under the car. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The driver and the male resident’s wife were also transported to the hospital for minor injuries sustained as a result of the collision.


A City of Kirkland engineer was called to the scene and determined there was potential structural damage to the building. He deemed several units to be uninhabitable at this time. The affected residents were contacted and provided with information regarding the building’s damage. The Red Cross was contacted on behalf of the residents in order to assist the families.
