Quick response enables successful evacuation resulting in only one injury
A quick response by Kirkland Firefighters to a 3:30 a.m. two alarm fire at the Forbes Creek Apartments in the 10,000 block of 113th Court NE resulted in the successful evacuation of nine families. One occupant was transferred to Harborview Medical Center suffering burn injuries. One dog perished in the fire, one cat was rescued and two other cats are reported missing.
A resident of the building was awakened by the fire, and alerted the other inhabitants of the building for evacuation. Firefighters from Station 21 arrived first on scene within minutes and confirmed heavy flames exiting multiple sides of the building. Units from Station 27 arrived shortly, called for a second alarm, and initiated an attack on the fire from the rear of the building. The fire was contained within 15 minutes. All apartment units were searched and cleared. Displaced occupants were attended to on scene.
Units from Bellevue, Bothell, Woodinville and Redmond assisted on scene. The Red Cross is working with the families and management of the apartment complex said that all families would be temporarily located within other units in the complex.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lieutenant Cory Caulk is assigned to head the investigation.
