Beginning fall 2017, Peter Kirk Community Center will offer a new after-school camp for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
“We’re excited to offer this new program,” said Recreation Coordinator Betsy Maxwell. “We heard repeatedly about a lack of after-school programs in Kirkland and are trying to help fill that community need.”
The camp will run from 3 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays and from 1:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. It will follow the Lake Washington School District calendar and will be closed on days that school is not in session, including inclement weather closures. Transportation will not be provided.
The creation of this program came from Parks and Community Services staff seeking ways to expand programming at the Peter Kirk Community Center.
“We’ve been looking at ways to fill in our programming in the afternoons,” Maxwell said. “Offering an after-school camp seemed like a perfect combination of what we could offer and what the community wants.”
The camp will consist of a blend of recreation and educational activities in a relaxed, fun and safe environment. Available to both residents and non-residents, sign up can be made in week or month increments, or for the full school year. Signing up for the full school year will guarantee a spot in the program and will also make available a convenient monthly payment plan.
