Letter to the Editor | Forum on Improving Gun Safety and Reducing Gun Violence

Three letters to the editor in the April 6 edition of the “Kirkland Reporter” presented three views on guns, schools and human life. This Sunday, April 15, 6:00 p.m. Lutheran Peace Fellowship is sponsoring an informed presentation and peaceful discussion on “Improving Gun Safety and Reducing Gun Violence.”

Erin Cizmas, a volunteer with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, will lead a presentation and discussion of three issues related to our safety and the use of guns.

  • The Moms BeSMARTforKids program to help prevent shootings by children;
  • Public safety gun measures that have recently been adopted and that failed to be adopted during the recent Washington State Legislative session; and
  • How to focus discussion of public gun safety measures that respect the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Holy Spririt Lutheran Church, 10021 NE 124th Street, Kirkland, is hosting the one-and-a-half talk and small group discussion. Lutheran Peace Fellowship (https://www.lutheranpeace.org/) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) with a vision of “peace with justice, welcoming community, wholeness,” and “active nonviolence.” The Eastside chapter focuses on a six-step process in these discussions to build peace that includes calming the mind, actively listening, respectful inquiry, speaking with kindness, being open to new ideas and emulating respectful behavior.
