Kiwanis Club of Kirkland Installs New Club President and Raises Money for Local Kids

The first Friday of September is the set date for the Kiwanis club of Kirkland’s annual Installation Banquet.  It is the biggest social event of the year for the club and a big money maker for the kids in our community.

The highlight of the evening was the installation of the incoming president for the upcoming year, Bill Badgley, who begins his reign as President in October.  Also installed was President-Elect Michael Marquess, and Vice President Carol Truex, along with three new board members, Bill Ward, Dennis Welch and Mike Steelsmith.  Special guest Carol Mahoney, Lt. Governor of the PNWD 28, did the honors of installing these new officers and BOD members.

Remembrances were made for Bob Wilson, a cherished member of the club for 9 years, who passed away in August of this year.  He was always there to lend a helping hand with a smile on his face and a great story to tell.  He will be dearly missed.

The Kiwanian of the Year Award for 2017-2018 was presented to Tom Pendergrass, KCK and KKF Secretary.  This prestigious award is given to a club member that has made a significant contribution to the club within the year and is chosen by fellow members.

The outgoing president, Dale Sahr, was commended for a job well done during the past year and was given kudos by everyone at the banquet with a standing ovation.

For the fifth year, the banquet was held at the Kirkland Woman’s Club and about 100 members, spouses and friends gathered for the festivities.

Silent and live auctions were held, as well as a raffle.  All proceeds will go to help cover the club’s operational costs.  As an all-volunteer non-profit, this means that 100% of donations we received, as well as proceeds from our Christmas Tree sales go directly to helping children and families in need in the greater Kirkland area.

As the evening came to a close, KCK members, spouses and friends gathered up their treasures from the auctions and raffle and headed home with smiles on their faces and warmth in their hearts, knowing that the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland will be moving into another great year of fun and service to our community.
